Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) is the most common analysis utilized to measure fiber concentrations of air samples during asbestos abatement projects. PCM analysis is not intended to distinguish asbestos fibers from other non-asbestos fibers, but to determine an overall concentration of all types of fibers present in the sample. The current revision of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Method 7400 is employed for PCM analysis by NISOH 582e certified microscopists.
